Gourmet Meal Delivery Services for Seniors and the Elderly

Active seniors can enjoy some of the best gourmet meal delivery services and avoid shopping, cooking, and cleaning. Chances are, you won’t need prepared meals every night, but find it a convenience to keep an inventory of prepared gourmet meals.

Over the last ten years or so, we have purchased food from all the major meal delivery services and are only too happy to share our experiences and recommendations with you.

Here is a gourmet prepared meal from Home Bistro. We would consider a Rack of Lamb to be a high-quality ingredient. This Home Bistro prepared meal qualifies as gourmet because of its superior ingredients and skilled cooking technique.

Home Bistro also cooked their meals using a sous-vide cooking method. The food is individually sealed in watertight vacuum bags, and cooked in warm water for long periods of time. It is French slow-cooking technique that brings out the flavor of the food without drying it out.

Of course, one can expect to pay more for a gourmet meal like this, which is a challenge for the gourmet meal delivery industry. Restaurant-quality food comes with a restaurant-quality price. As of this writing, this Rack of Lamb meal cost $25.99. It is exceptional, and well worth the price, but not for everyone. 

EasyLife Meals - EasyLife Meals makes diabetic meals that can also be low in sodium. They have a little slider you can use to filter their menu based on your specific nutritional needs. When we set the slider to 490 mg of sodium per meal, 20 meals became available. There are certainly enough to make a compelling menu.

Overall, we found these meals to be above average in quality.

The best of Magic Kitchen can be found in their Main Courses section, where you shop for entrees, sides, and vegetables. The gourmet meals we have pictured above were all created from this section. The good news is that everything is wonderful, and only your creativity limits the amazing meals you'll have.

The downside is that you must buy 2 to 4 servings of everything, and in the case of the sides and vegetables, the "serving size" is not realistic in our opinion. 

You must read the cooking instructions when you shop here because some of the food doesn't reheat in the microwave. 

It's not "prepared" in that it's been cooked for you, it's "prepared" in that the food has been prepped for cooking. The Chicken Ana Luisa (which is very good) is a perfect example, it's not microwave ready. We made our Chicken Ana Luisa meal with Macaroni and Cheese, and French Green Beans in a Mushroom Sauce. Again, we had to buy two servings of each which, at the time of this writing, cost $50.97, or $25.49 a serving.
